World Book Day last week was a fantastic event, with Year 5 really getting into the spirit and all coming in costume as their favourite book characters. The students started the day attending the World Book Day assembly, which included the results of the Battle of the Books arranged by the school librarians and a performance of Roald Dahl’s version of Little Red Riding Hood by the Year 4-6 Drama students.
Year 5 then had time to read books independently, write letters to their favourite authors and characters, and read books they had chosen previously to Year 2 students. We also had a surprise visit from some Secondary students who performed short Drama pieces based on famous children’s books. It was a wonderful event that will be looked forward to every year!
This week, Year 5 students have been learning about the skeletal system in IPC, writing non-chronological reports in English, and becoming confident with decimal numbers to 3 decimal places.
Next week we will be focusing on:
English – Persuasive writing
Maths – Ordering and rounding decimals and converting fractions to decimals
IPC – The heart and circulatory system
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 5 Team
